  1. Dagda

From the recording Imperfection - The Album

These were the first lyrics written following a bladder cancer diagnosis in early 2019. The Dagda is an important figure in Irish mythology and, among other things, is the god of life and death. The song conjures up The Dagda as well as the spirits of some animals that had regularly visited our property in the past. These include a deer with a broken leg that survived for many years and had a fawn and, a three-legged raccoon (Eileen) that successfully raised a couple of litters and often raided our bird feeders.

From the otherworld found within you
The dance of the Dagda makes you move
The one-eyed raven holds the clue
To the march of the ancients and the road you choose

The three-legged bandit and the broken-legged mother
Lived apart; never knew one another
But to follow their old trails together
Will lead us to the place we can call forever

Below the ruin
He guides you through it
And heals and seals the wounds in you
Forget the cries, forgive the lies
Then move with the ancient that was dormant in you

A lonely pilgrim travels on his own
But he misses every clue that is to be found
Blinded by conformity and the arrogance of youth
He will always be searching for but will never find truth

From the otherworld found within you
The dance of the Dagda makes you move
The one-eyed raven holds the clue
To the march of the ancients and the road

Below the ruin
He guides you through it
And heals and seals the wounds in you
Forget the cries, forgive the lies
Then move with the ancient that was dormant in you
